Euro 2012: Secondary Data Analysis

The Euro 2012 Football Tournament has started.

The event is co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine.

There is a very detailed website for the Tournament.

As with all major tournaments the website offers opportunities for detailed secondary data analysis.

These include:

The website includes a Castrol EDGE Index. This index charts “a player’s every pass, save, shot and tackle to measure the impact of such actions on their side’s ability to score or concede a goal”. “A team of Castrol Performance Analysts will crunch all of the data to award each player a match score out of ten. ”

There are some interesting visualisations on the website. I liked the interactive tournament map.
